Hi Jackie,
BZYQT is an immune stimulant, so it's always safest to use it in patients that are very deficient in their presentation; or that have deep wiry pulses signifying Qi stagnation in the lower abdomen. I would expect SP 6 or SP 4 to really help this kind of case.
I usually find Crohn's cases (in Canada, at least) are Damp Heat cases and more responsive to Si Miao San or San Ren Tang. SP 9 is what changes the pusle here. The former has a pulse that is more superficial and slippery, and a swollen red to purple red tongue. The latter has a pulse that is more deep and wiry, and a tongue that might be purplish and swollen.
Hopefully that's of some help to you.
To find a decent referral in your area, go to nccaom.org and seek practitioners that are certified in both herbal medicine and acupuncture.
Good luck!
