Glad to hear you made it home safely, and that you enjoyed module I. Hopefully I didn't confuse you too much.
Regarding aural hemo-"tomatoes", if they're reasonably small, taking up less than 20 percent of the pinna, they can usually be halted and resorbed without surgery. Resorption takes a long time, usually several weeks.
The risk in resorption over drainage is a 'cauliflower' ear, or a distortion of the pinna as the hemotoma fibroses deforms the pinna through contracture. The risk is larger of that when the hematoma takes up say 40%of the ear. So, in ear hematomas, size matters!
Typically we'll try Arnica (topical, homeopathic), Nettles, and sometimes Qing Ying Tang (if paws are cool), or maybe even topical hemorrhoidal treatments like Witch Hazel, if ears and paws are hot, to halt the bleeding and reduce the itch. I believe people also use judicious quantities of pred, but haven't done so myself. Too much pred and you'll delay resorption, I think.
