Question Details
Cat Sinusitis
by marneemadsen - March 18, 2010
Hi again...this is one we didn't get to at class that I wanted to run by you. I have posted previously about her...

Trudy
19 yr old FS DSH

Over 1 yr duration sinus congestion and sneezing. Had exam under anesthesia 8/2009 with flush, rads, culture. Culture grew pseudomonas. Felt great for about 2 weeks after anesthesia from flushing the sinuses, but congestion came back and has not responded to much. She was on low dose marbofloxacin for 30 days post flush. Abx did cause soft stool eventually.

Disharge was getting yellow at that time and she was sneezing blood from chronic irritation. After flush, discharge has stayed clear with occasional blood. She has had mild renal azotemia for years and is now needing SQ fluids 3 times weekly. Hx of obesity and able to get weight down starting at age 17. Very poor mobility when started tx which has improved greatly.

T = generally lavendar to purple
P = rapid, thin, deep
Pts = generally around SP/ST, BL18, GB channel always very active - esp around arthritic hips and spine

Coat quite oily - has improved over past 2 years
Heat seeker
Heat often present over Yin Tang and frontal sinus appears puffy at times
Congestion seems constrained to sinuses where she is very stuffy but cannot sneeze it out well.

Things we have tried for sinus (and other formulas for overall patterns):
San Ren Tang - mild improvements
Wei Ling Tang
Xin Yi San - mild improvements
Yu Ping Feng San + Cang Er San - mild improvements
Western Upper resp formula
Ba Wei Di Huang Wan
Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang
Azithromycin
SinuPro (quercetin with NAC)
Huey’s Formula (Dr. Xie mod of Xin Yi San)
XCHT + QJ
Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan
Nebulized oregano, peppermint, lavendar, eucalyptus...others - have tried various combos with some mild improvements

She is currently on:
SRT BID

BWDHW AM
XFZYT PM
Sinupro
SQ fluids
Nebulizer

She is starting to fade now....I know she is 19, but would love to help her breath before she dies if anyone has any magic.

Hi Marnee,

One formula I didn't notice in the list is Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang. Have you tried that? It fits the stasis, deep pulse, and chronic infection. It may be potentiated by using it alongside Xin Yi San, or you can try adding (or having added) Bai Zhi (Angelica dahurica) and Fang Feng (Ledebouriella).

Continued Kidney support using BWDHW seems a good idea as well.

Hopefully that's helpful advice...

Thanks, Steve...I have not tried that one, but it sounds like a great idea. We'll give it a go.
