Intrahepatic Shunt In Yorkie
by Michelle1 - May 14, 2009
Hi Steve,

Seeing a 3 year old yorkie with intrahepatic shunt diagnosed after explortory at MU. She has managed pretty well on milkl thistle and Azodyl and lactulose, but her ALT was much higher this last visit. What herbs might help here- classic liver blood deficiency?

Thanks-you,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

My favorite formula, assuming no Dampness, is Yi Guan Jian. Xiao Yao San should be used if there is slight evidence of Damp or, particularly, of Spleen Qi deficiency. For overtly Damp animals, think of Dang Gui Shao Yao San.

Good luck. It should be a fun case for you,

Steve
