Perianal Adenocarcinoma In A Dog

Noah is a 7yo MN purebred Collie - beautiful soft shy boy with an aggressive perianal adenocarcinoma. Steve, you had consulted with his mom Marianne last Fall and we put him on Rehmannia 8, Shao Fu Zhu Yu Tang, modXFZYT, and Horsey-Like formula. In January the oncologist did a recheck ultrasound and he had multiple abdominal lymphadenopathy! He has recently had surgery to remove several LNs but they could not get two that were too close to the aorta and vena cava.

I would like to know your reasoning behind Rehmannia 8? With SFZYT we are aiming to reduce Blood Stasis in the lower jiao right? I am considering putting this dog on Ge Jia Zhu Yu Tang with San Leng and E Zhu instead of modXFZYT? Or would I add it on to the present protocol? Any other thoughts from your brilliant mind? This is such a lovely dog and owner and I thought he had been doing so well...

Hi Corinne,

I had just noticed that one of our especially long-lived dogs had been on that protocol, including the use of Rehmannia 8. While we don't think of Rehmannia as an anti-cancer herb, it does have some effects in that way. Granted this other dog was older, so Kidney Qi deficiency may have been more of an issue for him than with your dog.

The one big thing to try is Xiao Chai Hu Tang. You can totally switch to Ge Xia Zhu Yu Tang as well, and even continue the SFZYT, as the emphasis in the case shifts from the outer body (i.e. upper burner) to the lower burner. Feel free to add E Zhu as planned, or Yu Jin instead and in addition, since it pairs well with XCHT.
